Antiparos

Woke up with a black tongue - weirdest thing. Really freaked me out because what would do that?! Pretty much thought that I had the black plague, but then later found out that it could be a side effect from my good friend Pepto Bismol. Vigorously brushed it off with my toothbrush, but wasn't totally successful - so creepy. Felt very lightheaded/dehydrated, just plain out of it.

Checked out the Church of 100 Doors before taking the five-minute ferry to Antiparos. The church was very pretty, but I was so out of it I had to sit out for some of it. Not sure why it's called that because there's not nearly 100 doors.

 

 

Took the car on the ferry to Antiparos - the water was so beautiful and it was cool to see all the wind and kite surfers out there.

Stopped at the famous caves of Antiparos that Maria had recommended (she's been 10 times!). It was pretty cool to see and it went down wicked far. Hundreds of steps which I guess are a recent addition. We saw some old stairs, must've been pretty scary when Maria went as a kid! Some graffiti that was hundreds of years old. I wondered why there weren't any bats though.

Checked out some of the beaches to figure out which one we liked the best and ended up beading back to one of the first we'd stopped at called Soros. Clear water and a little taverna where they must've been setting up for a wedding or some kind of party later on - looked very nice and what a spot.

There was a nice breeze blowing through, we definitely needed it with the heat. My contact popped out in the water so the three of us had to put forth a group effort trying to get it in against the crazy wind. Got some milkshakes up at the bar - so good! Saw a smooshed cat as we were leaving - so creepy, but must happen a lot with all the wild cats roaming around.

Went into Piso Livadi for dinner at a place called Hilari I believe. Lauren had salad, eggplant in the oven (so good), and grape leaves stuffed with rice (very good, but maybe better with meat/raisins, too). The grape leaves had dill on them so Lauren didn't like those very much. I went for shrimp and spaghetti and Mom tried the red mullet which was the catch of the day - figured we had to do seafood since we were right on the water. Well we didn't make the best choices - expected Mom's red mullet to be a big white fish, but they were small fried fish with heads, tails and all (not much meat and pretty unappetizing in appearance). My shrimp were the the full things again - poop and all so it was quite a saucy mess. Not really worth all the work for the meal, but oh well. Good thing we had moist towelettes after! Finished off with some complimentary Greek yogurt which was very nice.

Went into Naousa for some real dessert at Kalypso Cafe which Maria had suggested for us. Mom and I had nutella and banana crepes while Lauren had hot chocolate.
