Hay's Galleria used to be called Hay's Wharf where the tea clippers would come in. In the 1960's the wharf was redeveloped seeing that it wasn't used as a wharf since before the war and it had become a very rough and derelict area. Hay's Galleria is all about regeneration - what was once a wharf has been transformed into a multi-function center with shopping, apartments, and offices. In this way, the wharf was kept alive by reworking it unlike the American tendency to demolish buildings.
City Hall, which is right near Hay's Galleria and next to Tower Bridge, is an eco-friendly building. This modern building was inspired by the natural form of the snail seeing that its design consists of circles within circles. City Hall was built with the notion of inclusivity; this building is accessible to anyone from us to the mayor (which is why our entire class could explore the building on our own). The whole building is windows so you can see everything. Additionally, when meetings are being held the audio is played over the building's loudspeaker so everyone can hear what is going on - pretty incredible.
